Technology is how we invent and reinvent ourselves. Its history is our history. It is the stone tool used by early man, it is the toothbrush we use every morning, it’s the string on a guitar.

Technology and music are inextricable. We think music is ineffable, the language of the gods, and that technology is mundane and material. But that opposition is a false one. It must be discarded to make music whole. Music is itself a technology – the manipulation of sound by man. Which came first – the drum or tala, the sitar or khyal ? One might as well ask which came first, the chicken or the egg?
