A study of organic milk production in Germany based on a sample of 268 organic dairy farms with 7,990 cows found that mastitis, fertility disorders, and hoof diseases were the main problems, and metabolic disorders, such as acetonaemia and milk fever were less frequent. Opponents of the plan, notably the opposition CDU Party and the powerful farm lobby, feel that this is too much of a disruption of present agricultural practices. Organic dairy farming is a growing sector in Germany (MIV 2016).Between 2007 and 2014, organic dairy milk production increased from 423,900 to 707,900 t (BLW 2015, 2016) and in 2014, milk was the most important commodity in German organic agriculture with a return on sales of 346.2 million Euro (AMI 2015, 2016).Nevertheless, in 2014 about 15% of the consumed organic dairy milk and dairy . Using survey data collected from 973 organic farmers in three German regions during the spring of 2004, some implications of the conventionalization hypothesis are tested.
